What is Deadlock?

Valve’s Deadlock is an upcoming game currently in a closed playtesting phase, and it’s generating a lot of buzz despite Valve not officially announcing it. The game is a hybrid of a hero shooter and a MOBA (Multiplayer Online Battle Arena), combining elements from popular games like Overwatch, Team Fortress 2, and Dota 2.

The playtest for Deadlock is invite-only, meaning that you can only access it if you’re invited by someone already in the playtest. Interestingly, Valve has implemented a referral system where those with access can invite others through their Steam friends list, creating a viral cascade of players joining the test.

The game has amassed a significant player base, with over 100,000 concurrent players at its peak, despite Valve’s efforts to keep the game under wraps. Playtesting involves both bot matches and scheduled PvP sessions depending on your region, with specific times set for matchmaking.

Valve’s secrecy and the resulting leaks have sparked mixed reactions, with some praising the game while others question the strategy behind its soft launch. The game has been described as potentially genre-defining, and after amassing hours playing ourselves, are inclined to agree, but what about you? Have you been invited to playtest yet? Let us know what you think!
